Current and Past CAPHI Programs
CAPHI is part of the Chronic Disease Control Branch in the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Control in the California Department of Public Health. Most core CAPHI program activities are achieved through a contract with the University of California, San Francisco, Institute for Health and Aging.
CURRENT CAPHI PROGRAMS:
Enhancing Local Capacity to Address Asthma Priorities (ELCAAP) is a three-year program to work directly with three Central Valley county health departments to strategically and collaboratively facilitate local efforts to reduce the burden of asthma in the five key goal areas identified in the Strategic Plan for Asthma in California. PAST CAPHI PROGRAMS:
Best Practices in Childhood Asthma (BPCA) was a three-year program, partnering with 17 community clinics to improve the quality of clinical care according to NAEPP guidelines, reduce asthma morbidity and improve quality of life, and reduce/eliminate asthma health disparities for
California Asthma Among the School-Aged (CAASA) was an evidence-based intervention program aimed at improving the quality of asthma care and reduce disparities for 5-18 year-old, high-risk, economically-disadvantaged children and their families served by community health clinics in seven geographically and ethnically diverse regions of
Childhood Asthma Initiative (CAI) was funded by First 5 California to develop and provide an asthma intervention focused on preschool aged children. CAI was a comprehensive program designed to decrease asthma morbidity and improve the quality of life for children aged 0 to 5 years with asthma and their families. Efforts to achieve these goals were coordinated by the Chronic Disease Control Branch, Environmental Health Investigations Branch, and Children’s Medical Services Branch and centered on improving the delivery, quality, and coordination of preventive, educational, and health care services directed toward asthma in young children.
